PHTHIRAPTERA
(Australian Lice)

Lice are usually tiny ectoparasites of back-boned animals especially those bearing feathers or fur. Almost all mammal and bird species have at least one louse evolved to a part of their body – even marine mammals and birds are not exempt. For instance the ubiquitous Eurasian Coot has 5 lice species in 3 Families living on various parts of its body. Of course we are not also exempt with Head and Pubic lice on our unwanted list.
