ORTHOPTREA (SE Asian Katydids - Tettigoniidae)
Tropical
rainforests have an almost continuous mantle of solar panels (leaves)
of many brands and designs harvesting the light from our local star
and using that energy to create food – a food chain becomes
possible.
These individual solar panels are consumed by a multitude of creatures,
mainly insects. Each panel has a ‘use-by’ date and erodes
gradually to that finality until the point when it disconnects from
its support frame and drops, often haphazardly bouncing off lower
obstacles, to the ground and full decompostion can begin. At every
step of this ‘leaf life cycle’ it is possible for a Katydid
to merge with the visual history and make a living whilst doing it.
