Like Cockroaches Termites have incurred unfair derision from Pest Control businesses and their multinational Chemical Corporation poison suppliers by advertising the catchcry that all bugs are bad and must be killed by using our brand of poison. As usual the truth is the first casualty in these advertising campaigns. Only a small number of termite species are of concern to humans and their wooden constructions. Most termite species are incredibly important dead plant material recyclers, soil aerators and water penetration facilitators in the Australian landscape. Their collective biomass in some environments easily outstrips the human biomass in the same environment. Australia is home to around 350 species.
