If you are adapted to processing the poisons produced by the plants you eat and retaining them in your body tissues it pays to advertise this. If your body chemistry allows the production of distasteful chemicals then it pays to advertise. If you have a fierce disposition supported by various weapons – powerful jaws and stings – then it also pays to advertise. Advertising has tended to follow 2 principles – at least three pale colours (red/orange, yellow, or white) contrasting with
a darker colour (usually black).
