AUSTRALASIAN CAMOUFLAGE
(Living leaves as backdrop)

I like to think of living leaves as the first solar panels, whereas many arthropods see
ubiquitous leaves as an opportunity to make a living by camouflaging on their surfaces
during periods of inactivity – this usually means staying perfectly still during daylight
hours, though if you are a predator another advantage is your prey will approach you
without realising, until too late, their danger. The most sophisticated camouflage
artists even show leaf ‘wear and tear’ marks.
